Meet Chip
Senator Chip Curry, who currently resides in Belfast but has lived in Knox and Unity, is deeply dedicated to Waldo County. His wife, Christi, has taught at Searsport District High School for over 28 years, and together with their daughter, a student at RSU 71, they are a family firmly established in Waldo County.
Throughout his career, Senator Curry has focused his work on helping individuals of all ages overcome challenges and reach their full potential. In the 1990s, he taught at Unity College, where he led courses in outdoor leadership, environmental stewardship, and civic engagement, fostering a commitment to both personal development and community service.
For over a decade, he worked with the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet, leading initiatives to strengthen community-based efforts to reduce child poverty and protect children from abuse and neglect. For much of the last decade, he has assisted adult students returning to college, helping them develop the necessary skills and earn credentials for good-paying jobs.
In the legislature, Senator Curry serves as the Senate Chair for the Joint Standing Committee on Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement, and Business, and he is also a member of the Joint Standing Committee for Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. He serves on the Maine Fire Commission and is the Senate Chair for the Blue Ribbon Commission to Study Maine Emergency Services. Locally, he is on the board of Waldo Community Action Partners and volunteers building sets for Searsport District High School Theater.
